The pondering beats of my heavy heart Burdened by sadness… Having hoped for more time To have received more words of beauty from you Yet my mourning quickly reflected back… GRATITUDE How could it be? That my sorrowing thoughts Had returned so quickly the ripples of hope? I had to smile upon further reflection This shouldn’t be surprising! Of course it would be so! For Dear Poem Mother, Your words have always been ones of consolation And now, they not only belong to this earth… Hereafter they will bless the eternities You are not gone… You’ve simply gone on… On to God- and on to the greater truth May peace be yours- always Dearest Poem Mother Upon this earth you have experienced The lonely depths of agony Suffered from raw injustices Endured the weeping…and the mocking… Been wounded by abuse…and by scorn You had your voice taken from you As cruelly as was your innocence! Fools they were! Did they think that the stolen soul Couldn’t escape? Couldn’t heal? For does not all weeping Echo upward? Does not the quivering voice Still speak? Cannot the mouth that utters despair One day shout out hope? Cannot the bruised and bleeding soul Ever mend? Broken hands Begin to write again? And new dreams be awakened Through this healing? Does not a bird still sing Simply because it has a song? Cannot the cruelest cage Eventually lose its hold? You taught us so gently and so humbly How forgiving ourselves and others Choosing to seek for deeper love and joy And ignoring the inferior emotions Were the keys to our freedom… Just as they had been yours And so, your writings have mentored us You have gazed your smile of acceptance upon us And in the gentle timbre of your voice We have heard the words of truth and strength You encouraged us to dream To create To be tender Prompting us to find the courage To be unafraid Unwavering in our artistry Present and purposeful in our lives You were my Poem Mother…our Poem Mother Not the only mother we’ve known But a mother just the same In my words…and in our words May there always be A touch of your grace And your goodness That just as any loving mother’s actions Will influence future generations May your compassion and wisdom travel on with us Blessing us both in the present and in the future For we will remember you always And we will do so… With a sense of deepest GRATITUDE GRATITUDE to YOU OUR DEAREST POEM MOTHER Poem Copyright 2014-2015 Poems And Reflections, LLC.
